Terms and Conditions

Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using EmotionLock, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. This is a binding agreement between you and EmotionLock, a trade name of BIB (KVK 75526972, Netherlands). Apple is not a party to this agreement.

Important notice regarding MT5 credentials

You acknowledge that you are using your investor password (not your master password), that those credentials are transmitted to and stored by MetaAPI, and that you accept the risks described in section 7.

Age requirement

You must be at least 18 years old to use EmotionLock.

License

EmotionLock grants you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the application for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not resell, redistribute, or sublicense the app. Your license is revocable for violation of these Terms.

Payment, subscriptions and refunds

All purchases are processed exclusively through Apple In-App Purchase.

MT5 License, €49,99 (one-time)

Non-consumable. Permanent access to your MT5 connection. No auto-renewal.

Monthly Subscription, €9,99 per month (auto-renewable)

First month is free following the MT5 License. The subscription auto-renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel via iOS Settings, [your name], Subscriptions, EmotionLock, Cancel Subscription.

Refunds are subject to Apple’s refund policy. For technical issues, contact support@emotionlock.app.

No financial advice

EmotionLock is a discipline and automation tool. It is not financial advice, investment advice, trading signals, or recommendations. We are not a licensed financial advisor or broker. Trading involves significant risk of loss. Past performance does not indicate future results.

Service availability and limitation of liability

EmotionLock is provided on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee 100% uptime. We are not liable for:

  • Delayed or missed trade detection.
  • Blocking failing because of missing iOS permissions.
  • The use of an emergency token.
  • Third-party outages (MetaAPI, Railway, Supabase, Apple).
  • iOS updates or App Store removal.
  • Trading during a lock or outage.
  • Broker configuration issues.

EmotionLock supports brokers that work with MetaAPI. Force majeure events are excluded from liability.

Liability cap

Total liability is limited to the amount you paid in the prior 12 months, not exceeding €53,98 (one MT5 License plus one month subscription).

MT5 connection and credential security

EmotionLock connects to your MT5 account in read-only mode using your investor password, enforced at the MT5 protocol level.

  • Your investor password is transmitted encrypted over HTTPS/TLS.
  • Your investor password is forwarded to MetaAPI and never stored on EmotionLock servers.
  • Only your MT5 server name and account number are stored on EmotionLock servers.
  • The app clears the password field after a successful connection.

Your responsibility: investor password vs master password

EmotionLock only ever asks for your investor password. If you enter your master password instead, you do so at your own risk and bear full responsibility for the consequences. EmotionLock is not liable for any losses, unauthorised actions, or account misuse resulting from you entering your master password.

MetaAPI is an independent third-party service. By using EmotionLock you consent to your investor password being transmitted to MetaAPI and agree to MetaAPI’s terms and privacy policy.

Screen Time and app blocking

EmotionLock uses the Apple Family Controls and Screen Time API to block your selected apps. By using the app you authorize this blocking. The block resets at midnight in your local timezone. Attempts to circumvent the block (uninstalling, factory reset, using another device) violate these Terms. We are not liable for missed trading opportunities during a lock.

Emergency override tokens

You receive 2 emergency tokens per week, reset every Sunday at 22:00 CET. Tokens are single-use and do not carry over between weeks. Using a token is a conscious, deliberate decision and EmotionLock is not liable for any losses incurred after a token is spent.

Assumption of trading risk

By using EmotionLock you acknowledge:

  • Trading involves substantial risk of loss.
  • You may lose all of your capital.
  • EmotionLock does not place, close, or manage trades.
  • EmotionLock does not prevent losses, only the act of placing more trades after your daily limit.
  • You are solely responsible for your trading decisions.
  • Past performance is not indicative of future results.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify EmotionLock against claims arising from your trading activity, your misuse of the app, your violation of these Terms, your violation of third-party rights, infringement of intellectual property, or your breach of applicable law.

Security and third-party sub-processors

EmotionLock relies on MetaAPI (SOC 2 Type II), Supabase (SOC 2 Type II), Railway (stateless), and Apple. We are not liable for breaches at any sub-processor. In the event of a data breach affecting your rights, we will notify you and the supervisory authority within 72 hours as required under GDPR. Special circumstances and prohibited uses

13.1   Trading addiction and psychological wellbeing

EmotionLock is a discipline tool, not a medical device or treatment for trading addiction. If you suspect you have a gambling or trading addiction, please seek professional help, for example via gamblingtherapy.org.

13.2   Broker compatibility and third-party restrictions

You are responsible for verifying that your broker permits third-party read-only connections via MetaAPI. EmotionLock is not liable for any broker action against your account.

13.3   Death, incapacity and third-party claims

Your license is personal and non-transferable. It does not transfer to heirs or estate.

13.4   Professional use and third-party funds

EmotionLock is prohibited from use with client funds, fund management accounts, or any fiduciary account. It is intended for personal retail trading only.

13.5   Regulatory compliance in your jurisdiction

EmotionLock is not portfolio management under MiFID II or the Dutch Wet op het financieel toezicht. You are responsible for ensuring your own compliance with local financial regulations. Remedy is limited to a refund if a licensing determination occurs.

Maintenance, support and updates

Maintenance, support, and updates are the sole responsibility of EmotionLock. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support.

Warranties

EmotionLock is provided “as is” and “as available”. Apple has no warranty obligation with respect to EmotionLock.

Intellectual property

All rights in EmotionLock (including its code, design, name, and content) belong to EmotionLock. You are solely responsible for any third-party IP infringement claims arising from your use of the app. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or reverse engineer EmotionLock.

Prohibited use

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble EmotionLock.
  • Share your access with others.
  • Bypass or attempt to bypass the blocking mechanism.
  • Monitor another person’s device without their consent.
  • Enter credentials that are not your own.
  • Use EmotionLock for any unlawful purpose.
  • Use EmotionLock to harm yourself or others.

Legal compliance

By using EmotionLock you confirm you are not located in an embargoed country and are not listed on any prohibited parties list.

Account deletion

Email support@emotionlock.app to request deletion. No refund is provided. Your subscription must be cancelled separately via iOS Settings.

Third-party terms

Your use of EmotionLock via the App Store is governed by the Apple Media Services Terms. MT5 connectivity is governed by the MetaAPI Terms.

Apple as third-party beneficiary

You acknowledge that Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and has the right to enforce them against you.

Governing law, disputes and individual resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes shall be resolved by the competent courts of the Netherlands. You waive any right to class action. Disputes must be brought on an individual basis. Informal contact is encouraged before legal proceedings. EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, that provision will be limited to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full effect.
